One-Line Bio

Alvin H. Horst, Dr. of Theology, prize wining painter extraordinaire is also a Real Estate Sales Professional in St. Louis, moved from the Compton Heights subdivision (in the near south side of St. Louis of which he and his wife Marilyn were awarded the Margaret Calhoun award for outstanding contributions to the neighborhood) to the Georgian in 2006. He received his doctorate under Arthur Carl Piepkorn, of blessed memory, with a dissertation on the life and theology of the reformer of Thuringia, Justus Menius. A Campus Pastor for most of his career, he was a Coolidge Research Colloquium Fellow in 1984. September usually finds him in Europe, recently quite frequently in Italy. In 2007 spent a week painting in Piemonte. Accompanying him on these trips is his wife of over forty years, Marilyn (Beltram) Horst, of Italian descent, a Medical Social Worker at Cardinal Glennon Hospital for Children. In 2006 he moved into the Georgian Condominium--see photo album and posts. His last Sunday service was on January 28, 2007 after 40 years in the ordained ministry. Subsequently, he joined the sales staff of Preservation Real Estate Associates in February, and in 2008 returned to CB/G. In 2012 he joined the Wood Brothers Realty Brokerage, and served for a year and a half as "Chaplain", providing a "Thought for the Day Inspirational Message" each week. He paints almost constantly these days. Several of his talks to an art Meetup group in St. Louis may be viewed on You Tube.
